Texas Gun Safe Storage Requirements – Dealer Warning

by BJ on May 18, 2011

While looking up the Gun Storage, Child Access Prevention or Gun Laws for Texas I saw that Gun Dealers are required to provide a written warning (http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/PE/htm/PE.46.htm#46.13)

(g)  A dealer of firearms shall post in a conspicuous position on the premises where the dealer conducts business a sign that contains the following warning in block letters not less than one inch in height:

“IT IS UNLAWFUL TO STORE, TRANSPORT, OR ABANDON AN UNSECURED FIREARM IN A PLACE WHERE CHILDREN ARE LIKELY TO BE AND CAN OBTAIN ACCESS TO THE FIREARM.”

Another great website you might want to check out is the Legal Community Against Violence: http://www.lcav.org/states/texas.asp#childaccessprevention

You can read more on the NRA/ILA website for the Firearms Laws for Texas:  http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/TXSL.pdf

Having either a Large Gun Safe like the Republic Gun Safes, which fire resistant as well as being built for strength and quality, or a small pistol safe for all of your firearms is the smart and the right thing to do to keep your guns and other valuables safe from thieves and small children.

Since firearm, Gun Safe storage and Child Access Prevention Laws are constantly changing the information provided here is for general information only and not for official use. Please keep yourself updated about your states current laws by checking the website links provided, contacting your local police department or the police department in states you intend to travel.
